Cory J. Person - Shareholder

Cory J. Person is a Shareholder with Hill Ward Henderson, practicing in the firm’s Litigation group. His practice is primarily focused on the defense of motor vehicle accident, premises liability, products liability, negligent security, general negligence and complex tort claims. Cory also serves as the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Shareholder, leading the firm’s strategic diversity and inclusion efforts within the firm and the community. Prior to joining Hill Ward Henderson, Cory was a partner with a major insurance defense firm, with a similar practice focused on tort liability. Cory has been recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer Rising Star (2015), Florida Super Lawyer (2016 & 2017) and as Florida Legal Elite (2018) in the area of civil litigation.

Cory is active in both professional and Bar-related organizations.  He currently serves as a Board Director of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and is a two-term past president of the George Edgecomb Bar Association.  He also serves on the Florida Bar Judicial Nominating Procedures Committee, and is a member of the J. Clifford Cheatwood Inn of Court and Defense Research Institute (DRI).  

Active in the community, Cory serves as a Board Member for the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation and as a member of the Bay Area Legal Services Development Council.  In 2017, Cory was appointed as a Board Member to the City of Tampa Civil Service Board, which considers and rules upon city employee appeals from disciplinary actions. 

Cory earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, where he served as president of the UNC Trial Law Academy and Broun National Trial Team.  In addition, Cory served as Managing Editor of the UNC First Amendment Law Review, and was the recipient of the Gressman-Pollitt Award for Exemplary Skill in Appellate Advocacy.  Cory earned his Bachelor’s degree in political science from Methodist University, magna cum laude. 

Prior to law school, Cory served as an enlisted non-commissioned officer in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Among the awards he received for his service are the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
