Matthew practices in the firm’s Litigation group, primarily focusing in complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes, management-side employment matters and federal court practice. The diversity of Matthew’s practice is reflected in the diversity of the clients he represents: from Fortune 100 companies to large insurance companies to small and up-and-coming businesses to individuals. Matthew has worked to obtain six-figure recoveries on behalf of his clients in breach of contract actions and successfully defended other clients from multi-million dollar claims of negligence. With his prior experience as a law clerk with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, Matthew also assists the Firm’s appellate practice group with high-profile federal court appeals. He is also a regular guest lecturer on various topics at the University of Florida Levin College of Law and the University of Tampa.

Prior to attending law school, Matthew served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army, deploying to Iraq in 2003. Also, he is a life member of both the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Matthew continues to try to give back to the military veteran community and the community at large. He helped create and fund the first endowed scholarship for military veterans at the University of Florida School of Law. He also serves as an officer at the local VFW, serves as a mentor with the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit’s Veterans Treatment Court, and previously chaired the county bar’s Military & Veterans Affairs Committee. Matthew also handles pro bono matters to benefit veterans and is accredited to represent veterans’ benefits claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs. Matthew’s other charitable efforts include the National Multiple Sclerosis Society where Matthew served as the Board Chair for the Mid Florida Chapter.

Out of the office, Matthew enjoys spending time on the water, watching sports, and enjoying time with his two children and his wife, Kimberly. And, while not as fast as he used to be, Matthew still tries to participate in a few distance runs each year.
