Scott McLaren - Shareholder

Scott is a Shareholder in the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Real Property Groups. Scott is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in both Civil Trial Law and Business Litigation.  He concentrates his practice on litigation involving business disputes, real estate and land use issues, as well as complex commercial litigation. Scott has extensive experience in prosecuting and defending lawsuits involving zoning and land use issues, claims for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, deception and unfair practices, class action claims, breach of contract, condemnation, Section 1983 claims, substantive and procedural due process issues, property tax issues, Telecommunications Act violations, land title claims, takings claims, broker disputes, shareholder disputes, commercial landlord-tenant matters, and other business and real property issues.
 
Scott has been involved in litigating several cases with significant impact upon the development and business community. These cases include significant (seven and eight figure) damages awards in favor of clients, defense verdicts in favor of clients, awards of attorneys’ fees in favor of clients, court rulings allowing development plans of clients to proceed (condo towers, cell towers, single family, industrial, retail, office, and mixed developments), as well as court decisions mandating the removal/dismantling of businesses/developments that compete/interfere with client’s operations. 
 
Scott is active in both professional and community activities. He currently serves as chairman of the Federal Bar Association’s Pro Bono Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors for Ruth Eckerd Hall.  He is a former member of the Justice William Glenn Terrell American Inn of Court, and is a graduate of the Leadership Tampa program.  

Scott was named 2013 Real Estate Litigation Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America, is listed in Best Lawyers in America (commercial litigation), Florida Super Lawyers, Tampa Bay's Top Lawyers, and Florida Trend: Legal Elite.  In 2016, Scott was admitted as a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers. He has also received an AV Preeminent Martindale-Hubbell rating, is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocate's Forum and member of the Million Dollar Advocate's Forum. Scott was also presented with the Pro Bono Service and Excellence Award from the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federal Bar Association in 2017 for his service to the disadvantaged citizens of the Middle District of Florida.
