Shane T. Costello - Shareholder

Shane is a shareholder in the firm's Real Property Litigation and Commercial Litigation groups. His practice focuses on litigation involving real estate and land use issues, complex commercial matters, and trust and estate disputes. Shane's experience includes acting as lead trial counsel on multiple bench and jury trials in Florida state courts. He has successfully protected an owner/developer’s $1 billion mixed-use development in a case involving title and boundary issues, obtained an $80 million judgment in favor of a private lender on a large-scale mixed use development, successfully defended on several occasions developers’ commercial, mixed-use, and residential developments against statutory claims that the developments were not authorized by the local land use plan, prevailed on all claims in a securities fraud case on behalf of a private investor, and defended several Florida landowners in condemnation actions resulting in significant settlements paid to the landowners.

Shane has been named a Florida Trend Legal Elite “Up and Comer” from 2015 to 2018, and a Florida Super Lawyers “Rising Star” from 2016 to 2018. His experience includes both prosecuting and defending lawsuits involving land use and zoning issues, title and boundary issues, easements, non-competition and non-solicitation covenants, restrictive covenants on real property, breach of contract, fraud and breach of fiduciary claims, deceptive and unfair trade practices claims, takings claims and condemnation actions, state and local permitting issues, commercial landlord/tenant matters, and other real estate and business issues. Shane has also handled trustee removal and breach of trust actions, as well as undue influence and tortious interference with expectancy of inheritance claims.

Active in his profession, Shane is Past Chair of the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Committee for the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. Shane is also involved with the Litigation Committee for the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, as well as the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section and Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar, and is an active member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association serving on the Diversity Committee.

Shane enjoys contributing his services to his community. He sits on the Advisory Board for the South Tampa Family YMCA. He also serves as an attorney ad litem for Crossroads for Florida Kids, representing children in dependency proceedings and providing counsel as to the civil legal needs of children in delinquency. Additionally, Shane is the Director of Community Service Projects for the Georgetown University Alumni Club of Tampa Bay, providing general service to the local community.

Outside of the office, Shane enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and is an avid runner and sports fan.
