Melina E. Garcia - Associate

Melina is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Group. Her practice focuses on general and complex commercial litigation, including cybersecurity. Melina advises and represents clients on a multitude of privacy and data security issues that arise in the handling of consumer and business data, and the management of information and operational systems under state and federal laws and industry standards. Her practice includes guiding companies in responding to data breaches by managing internal forensic investigations, addressing legal obligations and engaging with regulators. Melina also collaborates with clients to identify data privacy and security issues that may arise in their business operations and assists them with the development of compliant data privacy and cybersecurity programs. 

Melina graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University College of Law with a Certificate in Business Law with high honors. 

While in law school, Melina served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Edward LaRose, of the Second District Court of Appeal. She also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Karen K. Specie, of the Northern District of Florida United States Bankruptcy Court. Her book awards include Employment Discrimination and Judicial Externships. Melina also served as a Teaching Assistant in the College of Law’s Legal Research and Writing program, and participated in the College of Law’s Children’s Advocacy Clinic.

Outside of the office, Melina enjoys Orange Theory, traveling, reading, cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning, and spending time with her family, friends, and rescue Labrador.
